Hill District's Notorious Rooster Living Large After Capture

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- He fought long and hard to evade capture, but Rudy the Hill District Rooster seems to be getting along just fine these days.

The infamously loud bird was finally caught in November, by Frank Cantone, rooster rescuer who traveled from St. Louis for the job.

Photos from Cantone's Facebook page show Rudy settling into a much warmer, domestic existence.

Cantone writes that Rudy is loving his new living space.

The rooster rescuer was the last resort after many attempts to catch the bird failed.

Rudy was a nuisance for people within earshot of the plot of land in Pittsburgh he determined was his home. Homeowner Henry Gaston was told by District Judge Oscar Petite that he was going to be fined if he didn't capture the bird.

"Animal Rescue League tried to catch him, they couldn't catch him, they had a truck and he flew over top and he took off," recalled neighbor Bill Bailey.

Rudy finally met his match in Cantone and his daughters. After a long, cold weekend of trying to trap the rooster, he was finally cornered.

"He put his wings up and said, 'I surrender,'" Cantone said.

He may have put up a fight, but it seems like he's pretty comfortable in his new abode.
