High Winds Whip Across Pittsburgh Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was a windy morning across much of the Pittsburgh area Thursday.
A Wind Advisory for several counties in the area was canceled just before noon. A High Wind Warning that was in effect for other local counties has also expired.
KDKA meteorologist Dennis Bowman says in some areas peak wind gusts neared 50 miles per hour. Gusts hit 47 miles per hour in Butler, Dubois and at Pittsburgh International Airport. In Latrobe, peak gusts hit 43 miles per hour and in West Mifflin 38.
Temperatures will stay in the 50s through the afternoon and there could be a sprinkle in spots as winds flow down from Lake Erie.
Under mostly cloudy skies, the temperature will fall to 43 degrees tonight.
On Friday, Bowman says we can expect another breezy day with a sprinkle in spots.
The high will be just 52, and will fall to a low of 35 degrees by Saturday morning. But the first part of the weekend will turn out nice with lots of sunshine and a high of 71.
