High Winds Knock Out Power To Thousands
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - Almost 10,000 people in western Pennsylvania were without power after high winds knocked down trees and power lines.
West Penn Power reports that over 9,300 customers were without power at 10 a.m. Sunday. Spokesman Tom Kearney attributed the problems to downed lines caused by rain-sodden ground and 50 to 60 mph winds that moved through the area Saturday night.
The hardest-hit areas were Allegheny County, Crawford County, Venango County, and Washington County.
Kearney says crews are working to restore electricity.
Many Duquesne Light customers were also without power, but officials say fewer than 100 people are still without power. They expect power to be completely restored by 6 p.m.
