"Here We Go" Fight Song Gets A 20th Anniversary Update
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- You'll hear it at every tailgate party. It will boom out of every store selling Steeler jerseys.
This is the 20th anniversary of the biggest selling Steeler fight song ever.
Singer-songwriter Roger Wood delivers an updated shipment to Feinberg's, in the Strip District. Marcia Feinberg says the store will play it nonstop.
"Once you start listening to it, it's in your head, and you go home and you listen to it, you just hear the beat and no, it never gets old," she said.
A couple from Hershey buys the very first of the season. Then Roger Wood makes another stop at the store across the street, which orders 100 CDs.
The singer-songwriter wrote the first version 20 years ago.
"I just sat down and it came into my head," he said. "It took me 20 minutes to write it."
"Now it's updated, so we're looking forward to it," says a customer from Scranton.
He had to change that line about "one for the thumb" to, "We are the six-time Steelers Super Bowl Champs."
"Next one we win, I'll just change it to seven," the songwriter says. "We'll just punch that in and we keep going."
Changing players' names is a little trickier. For the Steelers new running back, Le'Veon Bell, he added, "We'll go to Bell when we need a touchdown/If you get in his way, he'll knock you around."
"I thought, we'd hear it on the radio once or twice," he recalls, "and that would be it, you know. That's kind of cool. But you just hear it everywhere."
