Henrik Lundqvist Flips Out, Twitter Flips Out
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Penguins earned a big win over the New York Rangers Thursday night at CONSOL Energy Center.
Normally, these matchups come down to goaltending and there are few better in the league than Henrik Lundqvist.
After all, there's a reason they call him King Henrik.
So, it should come as no surprise that he was once again a major storyline in Thursday's contest. The surprising part is why he will be remembered prominently.
During the second period, Ryan McDonagh ran over Lundqvist with no help from a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Let me emphasize this. McDonagh was not pushed into Lundqvist by a Penguins player. This was merely an unfortunate collision between teammates.
Lundqvist appeared to be shaken up, but there was no whistle and the play continued. Apparently furious, Lundqvist began barking at the officials with the Penguins coming back on the attack.
When he still didn't get the apparent whistle he was looking for, Lundqvist turned around and threw the net off its moorings – enthusiastically.
That maneuver did result in a whistle, but it was so the referee could assess a two-minute delay of game penalty.

Things turned worse for the Rangers' netminder when the Penguins exploded for three goals in a mere 99 seconds. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist lit the lamp to give the Penguins a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Lundqvist would not return for the third period and is said to be suffering from neck spasms. I wish him the best because I do truly enjoy watching him play - just not against the Penguins.
Now, Twitter exploded over Lundqvist flipping his lid and his goal Thursday night.
Here are just a few of the best reactions and memes:
