Hearings Postponed For 2 Suspects In Adams' Stabbing

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's new information in the case of three men charged in the stabbing of Steeler Mike Adams.

Lawyers for two of the suspects were in court Wednesday while investigators search hundreds of miles away for the third suspect.

The two defendants in custody had their hearings, which were scheduled for today, postponed.

Jerrell Whitlock is the man police says stabbed Adams in an attempted carjacking on the South Side earlier this month.

Authorities in a region of northern Florida, near Jacksonville, are now looking for him because they believe he has relatives in the area.

His father, who lives in Cape Coral, Fla., told KDKA's Harold Hayes by phone Wednesday he just hopes it ends peacefully. Police are on the lookout.

"He's a fugitive who's shown he's violent, and we don't want that person in our community any longer," said Sgt. Ed Seiffert, of the Columbia County Sheriff's Department in Fla. "We want that person in custody."

While that continues, Adams appeared at Steelers minicamp today just a week after being discharged from UPMC Mercy Hospital. He did not, however, participate in any drills.

Today was the original preliminary hearing date for defendant Dquay Means, who is accused of pulling a gun on Adams during the encounter. That hearing was postponed.

Defendant Michael Paranay, accused of punching Adams, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, but that too was postponed and will be held along with Means' hearing.

Means and Paranay now have their preliminary hearings scheduled for next week.
