Hearing Postponed For Woman Accused Of Shooting At Police
UNIONTOWN (KDKA) – A woman facing attempted homicide charges after allegedly firing shots at a police officer during a chase appeared in court Wednesday.
A hearing for Jessica Phillips was postponed because prosecutors added more charges, including conspiracy and firearms violations.
Walking into Uniontown District Justice Wendy Dennis's office Phillips greeted family members.
The 28-year-old Buckhannon, W. Va. native's preliminary hearing was continued with state's crime lab evidence delayed.
Phillips faced 14 criminal counts with 14 more conspiracy counts added today.
Prosecutors say Phillips, the mother of two, and Donald Ray Brown led police on a chase Sept. 27. Authorities say shots were fired at state troopers before the two barricaded themselves in a Uniontown home.
Phillips surrendered, but authorities say Brown turned the gun on himself.
"She just got hooked up with the wrong people and the wrong drug," said Margaret, Phillips's mother.
"It wasn't the sister I hung out with every day; it wasn't her," added Kimberly, Phillips's sister. "Once she met him, she was away from the family."
Phillips's attorney asked for a bond reduction but it was denied. The court ruled her a flight risk.
Police say Brown made meth out of a trailer he pulled behind his pick-up truck."
She's gonna do time. She's gonna go to prison," said Margaret.
Despite an attempt to have her bond reduced, Phillips remains in the Fayette County Jail on $1 million cash bond.
