Hearing For Teacher Accused Of Assault Moved To Next Month
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A hearing for a Pittsburgh Public School teacher has been delayed until next month.
High school teacher Michael White is charged in connection with the alleged assault of one of his students at Perry Traditional Academy.
"We're confident in his innocence and we're going to go for it when the time comes," said Blaine Jones, White's defense attorney.
According to the criminal complaint, the 15-year-old girl told police the alleged assaults began last September. Investigators say she reported being allegedly fondled and grabbed inappropriately.
At school, authorities say the girl said that White boasted of having money, cars and multiple homes in an attempt to lure her to his Homewood residence. She refused, telling police, "he wanted too much."
"This is a young man who teaches young kids in church, who teaches in the band," Jones said. "This is a young man who has a stellar record."
The hearing was continued because the alleged victim had a medical issue.
"I don't know the details," Jones added. "She was not here; they were not ready to proceed."
Until the charges are resolved, White – who teaches computer technology – has been removed from the classroom.
"Michael White's life has been destroyed," defense attorney Charles Gallo said. "So, you know, we're anxious to get through this case and watch him rebuild his life."
White is facing charges of unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of a minor and indecent assault.
