Health Officials Confirm First Case Of Zika In West Virginia
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia health officials say the first case of the Zika virus has been reported in the state.
State health officer Dr. Rahul Gupta says in a news release Thursday the case involves an adult male from Clay County who traveled to Haiti. Gupta says the man no longer has symptoms and has made a full recovery.
The mosquito-borne virus, which is spreading in Latin America and the Caribbean, normally causes only mild symptoms.

Health officials are investigating whether there is a link between Zika infections in pregnant women and a rare birth defect called microcephaly, in which babies are born with abnormally small heads.
According to the CDC, the virus also has been reported in at least 31 other states. Kentucky also reported its first case Thursday.
