Heritage Valley Health System Community Offices Closed After Cyberattack
BEAVER, Pa. (KDKA/AP) - Lab and diagnostic services have been closed at the satellite offices of a Pennsylvania health network caught up in a worldwide cyberattack.
Heritage Valley Health System announced those services will be closed Wednesday at 14 of its medical neighborhoods and community locations. The network didn't immediately say if any other services were being affected by Tuesday's global attack.
A statement posted on their website announced the closure:
"Lab and diagnostic services at Heritage Valley medical neighborhoods and community locations will be closed on Wednesday, June 28. Those services are available at Heritage Valley Beaver and Heritage Valley Sewickley hospitals."
In another statement, the Heritage Valley officials said they are confident they have identified the cause.
"In response to yesterday's cyber security incident, Heritage Valley is confident that it has identified the cause and is systematically restoring registration, clinical patient and ancillary care systems. Information technology teams in collaboration with cyber security experts continue to mitigate the situation in order to ensure ongoing safe patient care."
Heritage Valley provides care for residents of western Pennsylvania, parts of eastern Ohio and the panhandle of West Virginia. Its two hospitals, Heritage Valley Beaver and Heritage Valley Sewickley have about 500 beds. Lab and diagnostic services were available at both hospitals Wednesday.
