Hart Of Dixie
Mondays at 9pm on The CW
Fast-talking New Yorker Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson, "The O.C.") has her life all figured out: after graduating top of her class from medical school, she'll follow in her father's footsteps as a cardio-thoracic surgeon in New York City. But life has other plans for Zoe.
Turned down for the prestigious fellowship she had been certain she would get, Zoe is without a job and without a plan. Desperate, she decides to finally respond to the kindly stranger, Dr. Harley Wilkes (guest star Nicholas Pryor, "All My Children"), whom she met at her medical school graduation and who had offered her a place at his small medical practice in Bluebell, Alabama. She swallows her considerable pride and heads down South – temporarily, she assures herself.
Zoe arrives in quaint, picturesque Bluebell and is befriended by handsome lawyer and the town's golden boy, George Tucker (Scott Porter, "Friday Night Lights"). George is excited to discover that Zoe is from New York, where he lived for several years before returning to his hometown. Zoe's mood is brightened after meeting this true southern gentleman, but her mood quickly turns dark when she arrives at the doctor's office to discover that Dr. Wilkes has passed away – and that he has inexplicably left his practice to her.
Complicating matters further, Zoe finds that the practice is shared with the other local doctor, Brick Breeland (guest star Tim Matheson, "Burn Notice," "The West Wing"), an imposing figure who isn't pleased to share the practice with anyone, let alone an outsider – from New York City, no less. Equally displeased by Zoe's presence is Brick's daughter, Lemon (Jaime King, "Sin City," "Blow"), a sweet southern belle whose disposition turns sour when it comes to Zoe. Lemon relishes her position as part of one of Bluebell's most prominent families – and, most disconcertingly for Zoe, as George Tucker's fiancée.
Zoe finds a place to live in a guest house on the property of Bluebell's mayor, Lavon Hayes (Cress Williams, "Friday Night Lights"). Lavon is a former NFL star who takes a liking to Zoe and quickly becomes her confidante. Zoe's new neighbors include local bad-boy Wade Kinsella (Wilson Bethel, "Generation Kill"), a mischievous charmer who sets off sparks with Zoe, and Lavon's pet alligator, Burt Reynolds. Zoe's move to Bluebell infuriates her mother Candace Hart (guest star JoBeth Williams, "Private Practice"), who flies down from New York City to drag her back home. But Candace finally reveals the truth about why Harley Wilkes left Zoe his medical practice – Candace and he had had an affair years prior, and Harley was Zoe's real father. The truth about her father rocks Zoe, and she decides her stay in Bluebell might continue for a while as she tries to learn more about who he was, and who she is. The local diner is a long way from Nobu, but Zoe's figuring out a way to get used to it.
