Harlem Globetrotters' Star Tries His First Primanti's Sandwich
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Harlem Globetrotters have confused opponents and amused fans since 1926.
The Primanti Brothers sandwich shop opened seven years later, in the Strip District.
But never the twain have met, until Scooter Christensen visited Tuesday afternoon.
The Globetrotter point guard is in town to promote a pair of day-after-Christmas games at Consol Energy Center. He says it's not his first visit to Pittsburgh.
"I remember playing," he recalls. "The fans here were so loud and crazy. I loved it. But I also remember the cold, how cold it was when I came here. Kind of like it was when I played for the University of Montana."
But it's a warm welcome at Primanti's, where fans recall Globetrotter legends like Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal.
"I'm living two dreams," Christensen says. "I'm actually playing basketball for a living, but I'm actually giving back to the community. We're known as the Ambassadors of Good Will, so you can't beat it."
Christensen has the world record for spinning a basketball on his nose and his head.
But until his visit to Primanti's, he had never had French fries on a sandwich.
