18-Year-Old In Custody After Homewood SWAT Incident
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A nearly four-hour long SWAT incident ended with one teen in custody in the city's Homewood neighborhood Thursday evening.
The incident started with shots fired just feet away from officers patrolling on Mulford Street.
They knew the gunfire was coming from inside one of the homes in the 7600-block, so the SWAT team zoomed in.
Police detained five people but they were later released.
The 18-year-old suspect, who police believe was in possession of the gun, came out of a home next door. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
Zone 5 Lt. Richard Pritchard told KDKA's Kym Gable there's no evidence that the shots were being fired at officers.
"It's alarming that they were that close, so our response indicated that we were concerned," said Lt. Pritchard. "There's nothing that indicates right now. We don't have any evidence that those shots were fired at the officers. No vehicles were hit. The officers are fine, and so we're working on it from there."
