Man Arrested, Gun Recovered After SWAT Situation In Hill District
HILL DISTRICT (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police and the SWAT team surrounded a home in the Hill District Monday night.
Police say the incident started when gunfire rang out in the area of Roberts Street earlier Monday evening.
"We really don't know if they were shooting at one another or if they were shooting at someone else. We kind of arrived on scene and everyone scattered," Pittsburgh Police Spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.
Three people reportedly ran from the scene. One of the three men was believed to have entered a house on Roberts and SWAT was called to the scene.
Four adults on the second floor of the home were evacuated. Police gathered that the man may have been in the neighboring home where he lived with his girlfriend and infant child.
Police entered the home and found the suspect, 28-year-old Anthony Carter, hiding in the basement.
"SWAT was called since this person was known to be armed," Toler said. "We got intelligence that he could be next door, which is actually where he lived and sure enough our SWAT found him in the basement of the home."
He was taken into custody around 11:10 p.m. A gun believed to have been used in the shooting was found under the baby in the couch.
The magazine to the gun was found in a box in another room according to court papers. Police have not found the other two men possibly involved.
Police say no one was hit by the earlier gunfire, but a home at the corner of Roberts Street and Centre Avenue was struck by bullets.
