Gunfire In Homewood-Brushton Leaves Man Wounded, Bullet In Family's Home
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One man was wounded and a home was also struck by a bullet when gunfire erupted on a city street in Pittsburgh's Homewood-Brushton neighborhood on Saturday evening.
Police believe the gunman opened fire near the intersection of Frankstown Avenue and North Homewood Avenue around 8 p.m.
There's a row of town homes further up the street.
Richard and Emma Mason heard several shots hit their house. One of the bullets went right through their window and into their dining room. The bullet is now lodged in their china hutch.
Richard Mason told KDKA's Kym Gable that he was sitting where the shot came through just minutes before it happened.
"All of the sudden I heard something go 'bing.' And I looked around, I didn't see this; I didn't see the hole," Mason said pointing out the china hutch. "People were running by, whatever they're doing; and I called my wife to tell her that somebody is outside shooting, stay upstairs."
Meanwhile, the man who was wounded in the gunfire ran nearly half a mile to the East Busway.
Police say he was trying to get away. They found several shell casings along the path he took.
"Looks like he ran anywhere from a quarter to a half a mile from the spot where he was hit up onto the busway, and that's where we found him," said Sgt. Mike Piliyh, of Pittsburgh Police.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is currently listed in good condition.
Police continue looking for the gunman.
