Growing Landslide Keeps Part Of West Busway Closed
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A portion of the West Busway remains closed this morning and is expected to stay closed for the weekend after a landslide nearly doubled in size there overnight.
Officials with the Port Authority say the weather-related slide started Thursday morning, sending debris onto the roadway between the Sheraden and Ingram stations.
Heavy equipment was brought in on Thursday afternoon as crews continue to assess damage and clean up.
The Port Authority hopes to resume normal service by Monday; but in the meantime, several bus routes are being detoured. They include the G2, G3, G31, 28X and Beaver County's Route 4.
The persistent wet forecast is causing numerous landslides across the area.
PennDOT reports 16 active landslides in Allegheny County. There are 54 in Washington County, four in Westmoreland County, four in Beaver County and one in Lawrence County.
PennDOT in the district that includes Pittsburgh estimates that it may cost $15 to $20 million to repair the slides.
