Group Holds Peace March In Homewood

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) - People gathered at Westinghouse High School to celebrate Good Friday with a peace march.

They hope to spread the message of Good Friday throughout the neighborhood.

Their silence was louder than words as they marched through the streets of Homewood. This Good Friday, a community is hoping for peace to take over their neighborhood.

"We want the community to recognize that there are hundreds of people continuously praying for them, whether they know it or not," March For Peace Organizer Dina Blackwell said.

"As we gain hope, then we move, we're more encouraged to move into transformation," House of Manna Rev. Eugene Blackwell said.

Before they took their message to the streets, the group rallied at Westinghouse High School to spread the word of empowerment.

"You know who's responsible? We are. Each and every one of us," Rev. Blackwell said.

Organizers from the House of Manna brought Christian hip-hop and poetry to this year's event.

Dina Blackwell said she made a promise to stand behind this community.

"It is the day of hope and a new-coming of life. And we know that Homewood, once it has hope again, then they can dream," Dina Blackwell said.

Church leaders from the House of Manna will also be holding their first youth empowerment conference.
