'Ground The Flyers' Rally Held Downtown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The matchup was all but certain in the final weeks of the NHL regular season. Tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers will add another chapter to their storied rivalry when the puck drops on Game 1 of their playoff series.

The playoff buzz is palpable in the City of Pittsburgh and events are being held for fans to show their support.

A "Ground the Flyers" rally was held downtown at the Allegheny County Courthouse at noon.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Mayor Luke Ravenstahl declared today as a "A Great Day For Hockey."

Those attending the rally were asked to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item. Some fans also received a "Clip the Flyers" sign and a new Penguins hat.

As for the game itself, if you don't have tickets, but want to watch the game with throngs of fans, head down to CONSOL Energy Center to watch the game on the big screen.

The screen will be set up in the parking lot of the Epiphany Catholic Church. Fans will be able to gather on the CONSOL Energy Center lawn to watch all playoff games, both home and away.

For those fans lucky enough to have tickets to the game, the Penguins are calling for a "white out" to continue a recent playoff tradition.

Fans are being encouraged to wear anything white from jerseys to t-shirts. The Penguins will also be handing out white rally towels to fans as they enter the building.

The puck is set to drop on Game 1 at 7:38 p.m.
