Grieving Son Seeks Justice In Father's Beating Death

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The son of a man who died after he was beaten in a Pittsburgh neighborhood is speaking out.

While he grieves, Larry Andrews is hoping police will make an arrest in the murder of his 74-year-old father, Lawrence Andrews.

"A 74-year-old man – I don't know what you could say to someone to deserve to get your head beaten, you know," he said.

The assault happened around 4 p.m. August 15th in the 700-block of East Warrington Avenue in Allentown.

Police say Andrews, who lived on Mt. Washington, was punched in the head by another man and fell to the sidewalk. He died a few weeks later in the hospital from blunt force trauma to the head.

A white male was seen running away after the attack. People along East Warrington acquainted with Andrews would not talk on camera, but some said the fight involved a dispute over a woman.

"It's really troubling because he's been up there for 25 years and everything," he said. "A lot of people know him, he's helped a bunch of people because they came and told me at his funeral and stuff like that."

So far, no one's been arrested and Andrews is hoping the suspect will turn himself in.

"I know I got to forgive him deep inside because that's what my God wants me to do, but he should pay the price for this," Andrews said.

While he waits for answers, Andrews says he and his brother are trying to adjust to life without their father.

"How quickly I loss my dad – it's like I turn and look and it's like he's still sitting on the couch like he was a week before, but he's not, he's dead."
