Granato, Laviolette Fined For Sunday's Altercation

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach Tony Granato and Philadelphia Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette were each fined for their part in a shouting match that occurred late in Sunday's 6-4 Philadelphia win at Consol Energy Center.

Granato received a $2,500 fine while Laviolette will be forced to pay $10,000.

After Penguins forward Joe Vitale hit Flyers forward Danny Briere with just over a minute left in regulation, fights broke out on the ice. Laviolette was steamed about Penguins coach Dan Bylsma sending his fourth-liners on the ice and broke a stick over the glass.

Laviolette continued by hopping up on the dasher along the boards and leaned around the piece of glass that separates both benches, pointing and shouting at Bylsma, Granato and the Penguins bench. Granato hopped up on the dasher as well and shouted back at Laviolette in response.

Both Granato and Laviolette were dismissed from the game early. Vitale's hit did not receive a penalty, though there were over 50 penalty minutes issued out for fighting after the hit.

Pittsburgh and Philadelphia play again Saturday at Consol Energy Center in the season finale for both teams.
