Graffiti Vandals Caught On Camera Defacing South Side Building
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Neighbors on the city's South Side say they are upset after graffiti vandals were once again caught in the act in their community.
A team of four taggers were involved in a spray painting incident late Tuesday night at building in the 2400-block of Wrights Way.
The vandalism was caught on a surveillance camera.
Jonathan Growall, the president of the South Side Chamber of Commerce, told KDKA-TV, "After three lookouts checked both sides of the alley, the main graffiti vandal got to work waving his hand, and it was all over in about five seconds."
Growall says South Siders don't want the graffiti problem in their neighborhood to get out of hand, that's why you're seeing more businesses and home owners installing security cameras.
Sonya Toler, a spokeswoman for the Pittsburgh Police Department, says it's up to the various police zones to investigate any graffiti complaints.
Regina McDonald, the acting Pittsburgh Police chief back in 2013, disbanded the three-officer police Graffiti Squad.
Growall told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti, "If you let it go, it becomes a canvass for people who think they're artists."
