Gov. Corbett Weighs In On Penn State Scandal
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- With Pennsylvania still reeling from the Penn State child sexual abuse scandal, Gov. Tom Corbett made the rounds on the Sunday morning talks shows.
Gov. Corbett appeared on Fox News Sunday, NBC's Meet the Press and ABC's This Week.
He told interviewers that Joe Paterno and Mike McQueary didn't do enough about the child sex abuse allegations. Also, Gov. Corbett says he fears more victims will come forward.
On Fox News Sunday, Corbett says Paterno may have met his legal obligation in the sex abuse scandal, but says the ousted football coach didn't go far enough.
"When you don't follow through, when you don't continue on to make sure that actions are taken, then I lose confidence in your ability to lead," said Corbett. "That would be the case here."
On NBC's Meet the Press, Gov. Corbett was highly critical of key witness McQueary who testified that he witnessed a 10-year-old boy being sexually assaulted.
Gov. Corbett say McQueary had an obligation to stop it.
"He met the minimum obligation of reporting it up, but did not, in my opinion, meet a moral obligation that all of us would have," he said.
Corbett also told Meet the Press that he expects more victims will come forward in the Penn State investigation.
"The state police, the Attorney General's Office, and I encourage them to come forward," Gov. Corbett said. "Let us know, and we're going to do everything we possibly can to help you."
Corbett also says he's not sure if the Nittany Lions should be allowed to play in a bowl game.
He also says he expects the legislature to pass tougher laws on reporting child sex abuse, possibly by the end of the year.
