Girl Killed In Washington Co. Shooting Laid To Rest
WASHINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- The girl who was shot and killed during an attempted home invasion on Monday in Washington County was laid to rest Saturday morning.
Pallbearers placed the casket carrying the body of 10-year-old Taniyah Thomas in a hearse after a funeral service at the Piatt & Barnhill Funeral Home in Washington, Pa.
Rev. Richard White, of the Friendship Baptist Church, offered words of support to the family during the eulogy.
"The community, as well as our church, our church members, our family, the community as a whole… we stand with you at a time like this," said Rev. White.
The funeral comes just one day after four men were arrested and charged in Thomas' murder.
The fourth grader was killed early Monday morning when multiple gunshots were fired through the closed front door to her mother's apartment.
One of the bullets hit her in the head as she ran down the hallway to her mother's bedroom.
Malik Thomas, 20, a distant cousin, 28-year-old Anthian Goehring, 18-year-old Richard White and 18-year-old Douglas Cochran, Jr., are all in custody.
Curtis Thomas the child's father knows the suspects.
"I think these people deserve what my daughter got," said Thomas. "My daughter is dead, my daughter cannot come home, my daughter don't get to live whether it's in jail or outside."
Police say the suspects thought the people inside of the apartment had money, and they fired shots through a closed door thinking that's how they would get inside.
Washington Police are still trying to determine how many of the suspects had guns and who fired the fatal shots.
Meanwhile, Rev. White thinks this tragedy has brought the community together.
"It's gone beyond the masses, beyond race. It's transcended from any and every home, people from across counties, across different cities," said Rev. White. "We pray that God begins just to move from heart to heart and begins the healing process."
