Gibbs Makes USA National Team
Pittsburgh (KDKA)- University of Pittsburgh senior guard Ashton Gibbs has been named to the USA Basketball Men's World University Games Team.
Gibbs is one of 12 players who will represent the United States at the 2011 World University Games, which will be held August 13-23 in Shenzhen, China. He is one of four players on the roster with previous USA Basketball international experience.
Coached by Purdue's Matt Painter and assistants Cuonzo Martin (Tennessee) and Brad Stevens (Butler), the squad will remain at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for two-day practices until it departs for China on August 8. The USA will play an exhibition contest against New Century, a Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) professional team, in Huizhou, China, on Aug. 11, before USA opens World University Games play on Aug. 13.
