Gibbs' 20 Points Leads USA Over Mexico
SHENZEN, China (KDKA) – Pitt Panthers senior guard Ashton Gibbs helped Team USA top Mexico Saturday at the World University Games.
Gibbs' 20 points led the way for Team USA in their 108-67 win in their opening game of the tournament.
In addition to the 20 points, Gibbs had three assists and two steals. He was one of five Team USA players to finish with double digit point totals.
While the final score would make it seem as if the Americans had an easy game on their hands, it was Mexico who led 24-22 after the first quarter.
However, Team USA responded and took a 43-37 lead at halftime, which grew to 74-53 after the third quarter.
Team USA will play Hungary on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. local time.
