Giant Eagle is selling GetGo stores. What it means for your MyPerks rewards.
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Giant Eagle is selling its GetGo Café + Market sites to a Canadian-based convenience store company, officials with the supermarket chain announced Monday morning.
The agreement to sell the GetGo locations to Alimentation Couche-Tard, which operates Circle K gas stations, is expected to close in 2025 after going through the Federal Trade Commission approval process.
"This will enable growth for both Giant Eagle and GetGo as we move forward," said Giant Eagle CEO Bill Artman.
Following the final sale, Giant Eagle said they have agreed to partner with Couche-Tard to continue the popular myPerks loyalty program across Giant Eagle and GetGo locations. They also plan to explore "opportunities to expand the program."
"This partnership is going to give us the ability to expand on myPerks. Our customers love the ability to earn perks and redeem up to free fuel and free groceries. We're excited about what this partnership is going to bring us in the future," Artman said.
In its press release, Couche-Tard said, "As part of this transaction, Couche-Tard and Giant Eagle have agreed to maintain and partner together on Giant Eagle's widely popular myPerks loyalty program."
GetGo has about 270 locations across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana. They employ about 3,500 people.
In the sale announcement, Couche-Tard said it intends "to retain all dedicated GetGo store, operations and support team members as part of this transaction." Wendell Young, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers that represents many but not all of these workers, said union jobs are safe. Under present contracts with Giant Eagle, those workers cannot be summarily fired by a new employer.
Couche-Tard also said they want to continue the convenience store's "food-first approach."
