Giannotti: We All Need The Penguins
I hear too many people say that they don't think the Penguins could win another round in the playoffs so the outcome of Game 7 doesn't matter to them. Cup or bust!
Nonsense.
If you are a casual sports fan that will check a game out here or there but would rather watch "Mob Wives" or the same story told a thousand different ways on "House" then I can understand. If you're a big Pens fan then I just don't understand that logic. Maybe this incredible and unlikely run will end in the second round if they win tonight but maybe it won't. The Penguins would either play the Caps or Flyers in the second round. How could you resist? Even if the Pens lose a series to either of those two teams there is a built-in excuse with Crosby and Malkin out.
I love baseball and I've been fairly optimistic about the Pirates this year but I'm not ready for that to be the only thing going in Pittsburgh sports until training camp starts if it even does. Squeeze as much out of this amazing run as you can Penguin fans - there's no need to have the Cup or bust mentality with this team.
If it all ends tonight for the Penguins the only thing to be disappointed about is that we won't have any more hockey to watch or talk about. What this team has done is amazing and no matter what happens tonight they deserve a standing ovation when it's all said and done. Unless they get blown out again in which case you may boo and hiss.
