Get Marty: Officials Launch Investigation Into Plow Truck Hit & Runs
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The stories are all similar - Jerry Montesano in Shadyside, Pam Zollars on the North Side, Kim Roscoe watched it happen in Greenfield.
Three hit and runs, three witnesses, three city plow trucks.
KDKA's Marty Griffin talked with Pittsburgh Public Works Director Mike Gable during a news conference about potholes on Tuesday afternoon.
"I'm not concerned about hit and runs. I don't think there's really any proof that we're doing that," said Gable. "You're not giving us anything to work with. Give us a PW number, give us a license plate number."
Attorney Phil DiLucente who is representing several of the hit and run victims is outraged by those statements.
"As far as Mr. Gable saying that these did not happen, that is not truthful. This did happen. We have multiple witnesses and multiple scenes," said DiLucente.
KDKA also talked with three plow truck drivers, including one man who does not wish to be identified.
Griffin: "Have guys hit cars, did thousands of dollars' worth of damage and left the scene?"
Driver: "Oh yeah, definitely."
Griffin: "Countless?"
Driver: "Oh yeah. There's a lot that haven't been reported. People just don't know."
The Public Works director will not address it.
Griffin: "So you have been in public works for decades; you've never heard of a public works driver hitting a car and leaving the scene?"
Gable: "I'm going to address the pothole questions, alright, thank you."
Meanwhile, detectives with OMI at the Grant Building on Tuesday put in a request for records.
"I spoke with the detective personally, less than an hour ago. They are going to take this head on and we are going to find out who actually damaged these vehicles and others," said DiLucente.
