Get Marty: Homewood Residents Call For Action To Fix Collapsing Street
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Folks in Homewood are convinced their neighborhood streets will finally get repaired after reaching out to Get Marty.
"This is a nuisance and a public safety hazard. Someone could get killed on this street," says Albert Reid.
The long-time Homewood resident and community activist says he's been complaining for months about a collapsing street and sewer catch basin on Silverdale Street.
"Every time I come down I say a prayer. I hope it doesn't collapse," says Albert Reid's wife, Faith.
The Reids called Get Marty after trying for nearly six months to get anyone to look at the problem.
Truth is, the couple began calling the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority about a catch basin in their neighborhood two years ago.
Once we reached out to PWSA, there was immediate action.
"As soon as Marty called us we looked at the problems immediately. We have this slated to be fixed next week," says Brendan Schubert with PWSA.
Schubert also says PWSA will work harder to respond to community needs. In doing so, PWSA plans to repair or install nearly 400 catch basins this year.
"We are blessed. I cannot believe the repairs are happening so quickly," says Al Reid.
Meantime, Faith says she has other things for the Get Marty team to work on.
