Get Marty: Home Redecorating Turns To Nightmare For Local Couple
UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- A dream to redecorate turned into a nightmare for a local family. They were out more than a thousand dollars, and had no furniture to show for it.
Ronald Gallagher had a plan; he's had it for nearly seven months now.
Different spots in his house where he and his wife, Bonita, wanted to put the new furniture he ordered and never got.
"They just, like I say, keep giving me the run around," said Ronald.
The Gallaghers just wanted to spruce up the place. They've been in their home more than 50 years and needed a few pieces of new furniture.
Seven months ago, the Gallaghers ordered a sofa and love seat. They still don't have it.
They've asked for their money back and can't get that either.
"Just getting very upset over this," said Ronald. "I give $1,100 down, and I told him I want my money back, and he just as well told me he couldn't give it back to me."
The Gallaghers went to a landmark Uniontown furniture store to do business, Mundels. They've been family owned for 100 years and third generation Randy Mundell is running the show now.
He cringed when KDKA's Marty Griffin called him about the Gallagher's furniture.
Mundell: "Probably 30 or 40 times at least."
Griffin: "Thirty or 40 times with the manufacturer?"
Mundell: "Yes, and emails and on the phone."
Griffin: "And still nothing?"
Mundell: "Still no response, no anything."
Mundell says he offered the Gallaghers other furniture and a deep discount. It wasn't until KDKA got involved that he offered what they wanted at this point, a full refund.
He handed Griffin the check to give to the Gallaghers a few minutes after we arrived at the store.
"I just feel now it's going to be so much longer till they get the product," said Mundell. "So we want to take care of them."
The Gallaghers wanted their money back and that's what we got for them. Griffin handed the couple the check on their back porch.
"Fantastic, you're something else, that's all I can say," said Ronald. "Wow. We got action real quick."
So, why did it take so long? Well, the furniture maker producing the Gallagher's furniture, a big manufacturer, went bankrupt, reorganized and opened up again.
