Garfield Suspect Claims Fatal Shooting Was An Accident
GARFIELD (KDKA) - The man accused in a fatal Sunday night shooting in Garfield said it was all a case of mistaken identity and that he accidentally shot his friend.
According to police, the incident happened at a townhouse in the 5100-block of Columbo Street.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Andre Broadie.
Broadie was gunned down as he entered the townhouse. A man inside was babysitting three children and was apparently frightened by Broadie's arrival.
"Allegedly he came to the front door," Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Tom Huerbin said. "I am not sure if it was mistaken identity or what, but he went upstairs and retrieved a weapon but he came downstairs and encountered a person."
Broadie was shot in the head one time and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a tragic coincidence, Broadie's last Facebook entry was a statement of concern over the loss of so many young African-American males to gun violence.
His final statement said "There [isn't any] reset button in reality."
As for the man who allegedly pulled the trigger, police have yet to release his name and no charges have been filed at this time.
