Game 6: Pens Fall To Lightning, 4-2
TAMPA BAY (KDKA/AP) -- The Penguins dropped Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, losing 4-2 to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.
The Pens and Lightning are now tied 3-3 in the series.
For the first time in this series, the team that scored first didn't win. Pascal Dupuis gave the Pens a 1-0 lead at 8:23 with an assist from Max Talbot who took advantage of Roloson's bad pass behind the net.
Tampa Bay's Teddy Purcell tied it about eight minutes later on a shot set up by former Penguin Ryan Malone and Steve Downie after the Pens killed a penalty.
The Lightning took a 2-1 lead in the second period with a goal by Sean Bergenheim. Early in the third, Jordan Staal tied it, but just over a minute later at 4:55, Downie scored off assists from Vince Lecavalier and Simon Gagne.
Then Malone picked up a goal at 9:34 to make it 4-2.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 17 saves.
Steven Stamkos, Gagne and Pavel Kubina each scored two goals in the Lightning's Game 5 win, when Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher encouraged his players to shoot the puck more in hopes of increasing opportunities for rebounds. The result was a barrage of goals that chased Fleury less than 15 minutes into the rout.
