Game 3: Pens Defeat Lightning, 3-2
TAMPA BAY (KDKA/AP) -- Tyler Kennedy's third-period goal gave the Pens a 3-2 lead and the win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Monday night.
The Penguins now take a 2-1 lead in the series over the Lightning.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves, bouncing back after a 5-1 loss on Friday night at the CONSOL Energy Center.
The Pens took an early 2-0 lead when Max Talbot and Arron Asham scored goals just 45 seconds apart in the first period.
Tampa Bay made it 2-1 when Martin St. Louis found a rebound outside the crease and chipped a backhander behind Fleury on the power play. Simon Gagne and Steven Stamkos received assists on the goal.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second period with a combined 15 shots on goal.
At 2:12 in the third, St. Louis came through with another power play goal to tie it at 2-2. But 31 seconds later, the Penguins took the lead for good.
Kennedy settled a bouncing puck off a rebound and fired it into the net behind Dwayne Roloson. Kris Letang and Brooks Orpik assisted on the play.
The Penguins were held scoreless in two power play chances in the game and are 0-15 in the series with the man advantage.
Chris Kunitz and Steve Downie will have disciplinary hearings with the league Tuesday.
In the first period, Downie left his feet to hit Ben Lovejoy behind the Penguins' net. A penalty was going to be assessed for the hit, but Talbot scored at the other end to negate the call.
Later in the period, Kunitz delivered an elbow to the head of Simon Gagne in front of the Penguins' net.
Both hearings will be conducted by phone.
Game 4 is Wednesday night in Tampa.
