Game 13: Bruins Vs. Penguins Preview
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – When the 2013-14 NHL schedule came out, today's date was one the Penguins and their fans circled.
The Penguins will play host to the Boston Bruins at CONSOL Energy Center tonight for the first time since being swept in the Eastern Conference Finals.
A whole host of things went wrong for the Penguins in that series that ultimately led to the Bruins quickly advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals. Boston would go on to lose to the Chicago Blackhawks after squandering a late lead in Game 6 on home ice.
Now, a new season has started and there will be a familiar face on the Bruins tonight.
The Penguins went out and traded for Jarome Iginla at the deadline last spring. Initially, there were conflicting reports about where Iginla had been dealt, with the other team being Boston.
Over the summer, Iginla signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Bruins, where he is off to a good start.
In 10 games, Iginla has registered two goals and six assists.
The Bruins have been idle since a 4-3 loss to the Devils on Saturday and are currently fourth in the Atlantic Division. However, they have played at least two fewer games than the three teams ahead of them.
They are also a perfect 4-0-0 on the road this season.
David Krejci leads the team with 12 points (two goals, 10 assists), while Milan Lucic leads the team in goals with six.
In goal, Tuukka Rask is off to another hot start this season. Rask has posted a 6-3-0 record to go along with a sparkling 1.56 GAA and a .947 save percentage.
Against the Penguins, Rask is 1-4-0 with a 2.63 GAA and a .903 save percentage in the regular season.
As for Pittsburgh, they snapped a three-game losing streak Monday night with a 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Jayson Megna stepped up and scored his first NHL goal and added an assist to help get the Penguins two points in the standings.
Sidney Crosby continues to pace the team and the league with 20 points. His eight goals also lead the team.
Chris Kunitz ranks second on the team in points (12) and goals (five).
In goal, Marc-Andre Fleury (8-2-0, 1.79 GAA, .928 save percentage) continued his hot start by stopping 20 shots against the Hurricanes on Monday.
Against the Bruins, Fleury is 10-5-2 with a 2.19 GAA and a .929 save percentage.
