Furry Tails: Release The Hellhounds

Okay, well maybe not hellhounds exactly. These dogs are just so much darn cuter.

Halloween is increasingly becoming a very popular holiday among pet owners. More and more of them are including their furry friends in the spooky festivities.

And, according to a new survey, Halloween is an especially "howling" good time right here in Pennsylvania.

The survey, which was recently conducted by the makers of Milk-Bone and Milo's Kitchen treats, polled 3,000 dog owners across the U.S. in order to rank the Top 25 "Howl-o-ween States."

The poll asked pet owners three things:

  • Do they dress their dog up in costume?
  • Do they take their dog along trick-or-treating?
  • And do they include their dog in any other Halloween activities?

The survey shows that here in Pennsylvania, we rank No. 3, behind only Virginia and New Jersey for including our dogs in Halloween fun. Here's the full ranking:

  2. New Jersey

The survey also shows different kinds of dogs enjoy different kinds of treats. Just in case your shopping for those furry trick-or-treaters who show up at your door.

They say 52 percent of working dogs like "natural meat and meat jerky treats." Fifty-nine percent of toy breeds, 58 percent of terriers and 47 percent of non-sporting breeds like "soft and chewy" treats most. Also, 53 percent of hounds, 56 percent of herding dogs and 57 percent of sporting dogs like "biscuits and crunchy treats."
