Furry Tails: National Adopt A Cat Month

If you're looking to add a cat to your family, now may be the purrrrfect time to do it!

Not only is it National Adopt a Cat Month, but there's also a special event going on right now at a local animal shelter.

The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society says they are "bursting at the seams" with cats because of "Kitten Season." That's the time when cats that haven't been spayed or neutered reproduce.

"While we take wonderful care of these kitties, and shower them with love, we can't take the place of a forever home," Executive Director David Janusek says in a press release. "So to encourage adoption, we've decided to let our customers decide the adoption fee."

That's right, from now through July 6, the Humane Society is letting cat adopters name their price!

They say their aim is to try to encourage adoptions and ease their current kitty overabundance.

The "name your fee" event includes spaying or neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, micro-chipping and feline leukemia testing.

If you're interested, the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society is located on the North Side at 1101 Western Avenue.
