Furry Tails: Little Dog Rescued From Fire Puts Up Brave Fight But Passes Away
A handicapped dog rescued from a home that caught fire in McKeeport earlier this week has died.
The Western Pa. Humane Society is now conducting a humane investigation into the animal's death.
The two-alarm fire was reported Tuesday morning at a home in the 2800-block of Idaho Street. The little dog was found inside in respiratory distress.
The dog, which the Humane Society named Nora, was a poodle mix and got around on only three legs.
Nora was treated at the scene with oxygen and then taken to the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center by a humane officer.
The Humane Society posted periodic updates on Facebook about Nora's condition as vets tried to save her.
However, her injuries were too great, and despite efforts to save the little dog, she died Wednesday morning at the vet facility.
The Western Pa. Humane Society released this statement:
The Humane Society says a full necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of the dog's death and investigate the other signs of abuse.
