Funeral Held For Strip District Shooting Victim
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Funeral services were held Saturday morning for a young mother who was killed during a shooting at a nightclub in Pittsburgh's Strip District over the New Year's holiday weekend.
Shateecha Roach, 27, was shot just outside of Club Fever.
Family and friends came to the Manna on High Church in East Pittsburgh today to celebrate Roach's life. A huge photograph from happier times replaced a casket in the church sanctuary.
"We will truly miss her smile, her laughter and her presence," said Latausha Morrison, a relative.
"She was everything that the fruit of the spirit was – kind, gentle, humble, meekness, loving, a godly person," added Edna Roach, the victim's mother.
On New Year's Day morning, Roach was shot and killed outside the Club Fever nightclub in the Strip District. Three others were wounded by a gunman who opened fire inside the club earlier.
During the service, Roach was referred to as a loving mother of two young daughters. She was also a teacher's assistant who worked with handicapped children in the Pittsburgh Public School District.
Edna Roach hopes her daughter's death will have a positive impact on others.
"I just thank God her death was not in vain because so many people came to Christ today. This is a beginning," she said.
Police are still looking for a suspect in the shooting. Meanwhile, the church's pastor had a message for the person who took Shateecha's life.
"I say to them, whatever it is they have to make right - whether it's going to the police, whether it's confessing - make it right while they still have time because they too will surely die," Bishop Arthur Brown added.
Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for help finding the gunman.
The nightclub has since closed.
