Funeral Held For Children Killed In Greenfield Fire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Funeral services were held today for two young children killed in a duplex fire.
The children, 3-year-old Irihanna Hayward and her cousin 4-year-old Kamari Thomas, were remembered by family and loved ones at "Lamb of God and Judah Christian Church" on the North Side.
They were killed in a fire in their home in Greenfield on Oct. 12. They died of smoke inhalation.
It started on the second floor of the house with Hayward and Kamari trapped inside. It was also reported that the babysitter jumped out of a third-story window and survived. She suffered serious burn wounds and is currently at UPMC Mercy, according to the Tribune-Review.
Hayward started the fire by setting a couch on fire, the Tribune-Review also reported.
The house was destroyed by the fire and community members have come to the aid of the family since it happened.
Efforts are being made to help find the family a new house to live in and Greenfield Elementary's Parent Teachers Organization is trying to get clothes and toys for the brother and cousin of the victims, who is a first-grader at the school.
