Fund Set Up For Family Of Franklin Regional Stabbing Suspect
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - There has been an outpouring of support in the Murrysville area for the people involved in the recent stabbing attack at Franklin Regional High School. Now, there is an effort underway to try and help the family of suspect Alex Hribal.
Congregation Chairwoman for Calvary Lutheran Church Kristine Birus, joined the KDKA Morning News with Larry Richert and John Shumway to discuss why they are setting up the fund.
KDKA's Ross Guidotti Reports:
Birus says while she doesn't know the Hribal family personally, she would see things like what happened at Franklin Regional happen around the country she would wonder, "After the media frenzy dies down, what happens to the families of the perpetrators?"
She adds she was challenged by God to act and she took it to her pastor and got approval to set up the fund.
The fund is bound to get criticism and Birus understands that.
"If that happened to my kids, I have to hope I would still have that Christian forgiveness in my heart. But, we in society think we have to choose like it's an either or situation," she said.
She says they are part of the "We Are FR Fund," and that no one that needs help should be left out.
"We have a God that is for all of us. He doesn't leave anybody out. How can I leave out somebody if God doesn't?" she said.
The feedback from the community so far has been, "overwhelmingly positive."
The money raised will go the Hribals for, "whatever they need the money for." They will be in contact with the family and the family's lawyer, Patrick Thomassesey.
"It's a tragedy all the way around anyway you look at it. It's not a win-win for anybody," she said.
Birus adds they keep everyone affected by the tragedy at Franklin Regional in their prayers.
To donate to the Hribal family you can make checks out to Calvary Lutheran Church: Attention Hribal Family and mail it to 4725 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville PA 15668
