Frozen Four Is Event Herb Brooks Would Have Been Proud Of
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The impact U.S.A. Olympic Head Coach Herb Brooks made on American hockey can be felt in Pittsburgh this week as the Frozen Four dropped the puck at CONSOL Energy Center on Thursday night.
The son of Herb Brooks, Dan Brooks, joined Starkey, Miller and Mueller on 93-7 The FAN to talk about how much his dad truly would have enjoyed this event.
"Ten years ago this year my father passed away," Dan said. "The last college hockey team he coached was St. Cloud State. They make the Frozen Four the first time, and where is it held? It's in Pittsburgh, where he was employed when he passed away 10 years ago, and he absolutely loved the City of Pittsburgh, he loved the Penguins, he was so proud to be part of that organization, so proud to coach that team."
We also talked with Dan about some of the memories he has of his late father, and how he thought he was portrayed in the movie "Miracle."
"The Kurt Russell character, he never swore," Dan said. "When he coached that team he was younger, he was 42-years-old. He was more of a, picture a young Bobby Knight. He was more engaged behind the bench, very hyper, always chatting."
Dan also discussed the faith Herb had in the American hockey player and how far we've come as a country in terms of the quality player put out.
