Friendship Jogger Calls Attacker "A Monster," Recounts Terrifying Attack
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- As Pittsburgh Police continue to search for a suspect, the jogger who was attacked and sexually assaulted behind her apartment in Friendship on Thursday afternoon is speaking out.
She wanted to tell her story and warn other women to take steps to protect themselves.
"What happened was disgusting and I'm scared to leave my house," the woman told KDKA's Bob Allen.
The victim, who we will only identify as Anna, called her attacker a monster. She wants him taken off the streets before someone else is assaulted.
While jogging on Thursday, she noticed a man sitting in the park near her home in the 400-block of Roup Street in the Friendship area. When she reached the back of her apartment, she was attacked.
"Pushed me up against the wall, and I felt my neck crack, was on the ground," she said. "He had a blade with two knives on it, was swinging it around."
Even though he didn't cut her, the violence continued.
"Tried to pry my legs open, punched me in the face. I was screaming for one of our neighbors," she added.
It happened around 4 p.m., but no one heard her screaming for help.
"He threatened to slit my throat and kill my animals if I didn't stop screaming," she said.
She had to think fast because by then she said he started sexually assaulting her with a lighter.
"I kicked him in the groin as hard as I could, put him back on his back," she said. "I ran up the fire escape, I closed the door, I locked it."
Anna says she called 911 and was eventually taken to the hospital and treated for numerous bruises to her back, arms, wrists and nose.
Now, she has this advice for other women.
"Please carry mace; please remember to kick the groin area because that's really what saved me," she says.
