Friends, Family Remember Man Killed Trying To Stop Bank Robber
SOUTH STRABANE (KDKA) – A man who was shot and killed while trying to stop a bank robber was remembered Sunday night.
Friends and family gathered at the Giant Eagle in South Strabane and released balloons in memory of Vincent Kelley.
Kelley was killed in June when he chased after a man who robbed the Citizens Bank branch inside the grocery store.
Kelley chased the suspect out of the store and tried to stop him from driving away, but was ultimately shot several times and died as a result of the gunshot wounds.
"I still, my family, is still clueless about what happened, why it happened, who did it," Kelley's daughter, Sierra, said.
Even with surveillance photos, police have little to go on in the case, because the suspect's face was covered -- which adds to the senselessness for a grieving family left behind to try to make sense of it all.
"We're heartbroken because we miss my brother very much," his sister, Linda Lucas, said. "But, we're also angry because that person is still having a life, which my brother isn't."
Friends and family also honored other victims of violent crimes, including W&J football player Timothy Mcnerney who was beaten and killed while walking back to campus from a bar last year.
"I just want to say look around them and what they see and what they can feel is love," said McNerney's mother, Denise. "That's what's going to get you through. Not the violence -- they have love. We have the love and that's what's going to push it forward."
Police are also still looking for the suspect who robbed the Citizens Bank in South Strabane.
