Friends, Family Hold Vigil For Missing Etna Man
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Friends and family came together Sunday evening to have a vigil for a missing Etna man.
Police say 29-year-old Narbole Dean Cheeks went missing Jan. 6 and is without his medication.
Cheeks has not been heard of since he left his sister's house last week for a family gathering.
His family says he seemed to be doing fine, but stopped taking his medication and has been without it since he went missing. Cheeks is schizophrenic.
"Last Saturday was my daughter's birthday party," his sister, Teacora Cheeks said. "He was fine, he was on his meds, I mean he was going through his treatments and everything, he was fine."
The vigil was held at Rooney Middle School on the North Side and many of Cheeks' loved ones prayed together that he would be found and return home.
The small group also sang Amazing Grace and several people were visibly overcome with emotion.
Without his medication, Cheeks' family says he may be fearful for his own safety and unsure of where to turn for help.
"Dean, if you're out there and you see us, please come home, you'll be safe, no one's going to hurt you, we'll protect you," his mother, Lyvonne Hickman, said.
Police say Cheeks is black man, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 220 pounds and was last seen wearing a baseball cap.
Anyone with information of his whereabouts should contact police.
