Freezing Rain To Fall Near I-80 Corridor Overnight
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A winter storm warning is still in effect for parts of western Pennsylvania.
PennDOT has lowered the speed limit to 45mph on all interstates and expressways across the state temporarily.
KDKA Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla says most of the area will see a chilly rain overnight, but some places will have problems.
"As you get across the northern third of Butler County and up toward that Interstate 80 corridor, Mercer, Venango, Clarion, Jefferson County, everything that's fallen during the course of this evening has been freezing rain and that's going to continue well past midnight tonight," Verszyla said. "So, significant ice accumulation is expected."
Verszyla expects about an inch of ice accumulation in those areas which will cause problems with tree limbs and power lines.
For the rest of the viewing area, the roads will be wet, but aren't expected to freeze.
"[Wednesday] in the morning, it should be rain across the entire area, breezy as well, and then as the colder air works in after lunch time, we'll see falling temperatures," Verszyla said. "What's left in terms of moisture will change over to snow showers."
Only about an inch or less of snow is expected along with some gusty winds.
