Freezing Rain Causes Early Morning Problems
HOMEWOOD (KDKA) - Freezing rain contributed to a number of car accidents Wednesday morning.
It didn't matter what part of the city or county you were in. Shortly after sunrise, mist on the roadways turned to ice and cars began to slide.
One trouble spot was Inglenook Place in Homewood.
"What happened was, he turned the bend and went into a doughnut spin. He spun like three times. I'm amazed he didn't hit a car," Tow Truck Operator Tom Synan said.
Dorothy Webb's car was the first to slide and ended up wedged across the road.
"Came down, hit the ice and skid and [I] tried to keep from hitting the people on that side," Dorothy Webb said.
Ice caused accidents and closed Braddock Avenue. City trucks were out spreading salt, but for many motorists, it was too little, too late.
"You just can't see it. You just feel it. You just feel it, when you feel your car slide, that's it," Webb said.
However, the damage was not just limited to vehicles.
There were several reports of people suffering broken bones as a result of slipping on the ice Thursday morning.
