Suspect Sought In Penn Hills Shooting That Injured 17-Year-Old Boy
PENN HILLS, Pa. (KDKA) - A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after a shooting in Penn Hills.
Dispatchers say it happened on Frankstown Avenue near the intersection of East Hills Drive on Monday around 4:45 p.m.
The Penn Hills Police Chief Howard Burton said the boy was shot at a gas pump at the BP gas station. When police arrived, they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the legs and torso.
The teen was taken to a local hospital. A source told KDKA's Royce Jones that the teen was in the operating room, where the primary focus was removing a bullet from his chest.
Ivorie Heinz arrived as first responders were rushing the victim to the hospital. She did not realize who it was until her daughter texted saying it was somebody the family knew.
"I'm a mother. So first and foremost, prayers to his family," said Heinz.
The Allegheny County Police Department said detectives obtained video of the shooting and need help identifying the suspect, who fled the scene.
Police say the suspect was wearing a hood with a mask, gray pants and a long-sleeve black shirt with a graphic on the front. Police describe the suspect as a black man who is approximately 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 with a slender build.
Burton shared this message for the shooter.
"Once you shoot somebody, it's over. Not just for the person you shoot, but also for you once you get apprehended. There's no future in shooting and killing people," Burton said.
