Franco Harris: Why Is Joe Paterno Being Singled Out?
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pro Football Hall of Famer Franco Harris surprises Vinnie & Cook by calling in to Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan and reacts to the Paterno Family report released on Sunday.
Franco continues his staunch defense of Joe Paterno, and feels that the late coach is wrongly bearing the brunt of attention.
"People focus more on 'what did Joe know?' rather than focusing on what were the shortcomings of the Department of Public Welfare, the Children & Youth Services, the district attorney," Harris said. "Where did they fail? Why is everyone focused on where Joe failed?"
Franco admits that Jerry Sandusky should have been stopped immediately following the first reported incident in 1998. However, "nothing else happened at Penn State after 2001," Harris said. "I think the government officials failed in 1998, and that should be your focus."
Franco also explains why he doesn't believe Paterno would knowingly cover up a child sex abuse case, reveals what some of his research has unearthed, and points out the flaws he still sees in the Freeh Report.
