Former Steeler Jeff Hartings Say's Steelers Need To Become A Pass-First Team
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Former Steeler and Current co-host of Pittsburgh Gameday on 93.7 The FAN, Jeff Hartings joined Starkey, Miller and Mueller to discuss the issues the Steelers faced running their zone-blocking scheme for the first time in a real game which was most likely the cause of David DeCastro injuring teammate Maurkice Pouncey.
"It's just a sad situation," he said. "It's one of those one-in-a-million blocks and obviously David feels bad. Maybe some of that inexperience doing that lent itself to that happening in that way."
Hartings went on to say that the lack of practice time using the zone-blocking scheme led to both players not making the right play, which resulted in the fluke injury we saw.
With the Steelers rushing game doing virtually nothing against the Titans, Hartings weighed in with his thoughts on how the Steelers offense should run moving forward.
"I don't know how much we should be relying on the running game. I look at Ben Roethlisberger as like a John Elway type, put the ball in his hands, and let him win the game," he said. "Now the problem with that is, do we have the receivers to make that happen? You got to run the ball to some extent, we're not going to be a run the ball first kind of team the rest of this season. I think we should probably be a pass first team anyways with Ben as the Quarterback."
