Former Steeler Jason Gildon Takes Over As Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic Football Coach
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Many Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to stay in Pittsburgh after retiring from the NFL.
Some go on to have coaching careers with the Steelers, but one just landed a prestigious head coaching job at a local high school.
"After a two-month search, after over 40 applicants from 10 states, we are blessed and honored to introduce Mr. Jason Gildon as our next head football coach," Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic Athletic Director Mike Burrell said.
With 11 years of NFL experience, three Pro Bowls and one Super Bowl, the All-Pro linebacker is the head high school football coach at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic.
"I couldn't ask to be part of a better program than the one here at Cardinal Wuerl, and I just thank everyone who did decide to give me a chance, and I really look forward to getting started here," Gildon said.
Gildon has been coaching linebackers at Seneca Valley for the past couple of seasons and also was an assistant coach at Peters Township. But, his appointment at North Catholic is more than X's and O's.
"To accomplish this mission, we look to our faculty, our coaches and our administration to provide leadership of programs but even more importantly to guide and mentor the development of each student, academically, athletically and spiritually," Dr. Ann Gaudino said.
"If you show up every day, you do the little things, the big things will take care of themselves. But as far as being a mentor to these young men, showing that I care in that process, I think that was the thing that went the farthest here at Cardinal Wuerl," Gildon said.
Seeing the players' reaction as they met their coach for the first time today, it's plain to see Gildon has already made an impact on them.
